The Fetus as a Patient International Society (1984)

"The Fetus as a Patient International Society" is dedicated to improving the care of pregnant women and their unborn and newborn children. This society was established in 1984 in Sveti Stefan due to the rapid development of fetal medicine. To advance the educational goals of the society, its board members are internationally recognized authorities in obstetrics, neonatology, perinatal pathology, basic sciences and medical technology. Their duties are to attend the annual scientific congresses and to participate in postgraduate courses.

Because of the great demand for education throughout the world, postgraduate courses were started in 1987. More than 20 courses have been held in various major cities around the world for the benefit of sonographers and doctors new to the field addressing both basic and advanced topics in fetal medicine. Several books on fetal diagnosis and therapy have been published by Parthenon Publishing on behalf of 'The Fetus as a Patient" Society, in which board members and invited contributors reviewed their scientific findings and compared them with the contributions of others. The publications also present the latest and most important developments in the new and rapidly evolving field studying the embryo as a patient.
